LQHBA Sale Lays Foundation For Strong Yearling Sale Season

KINDER, LA—AUGUST 3, 2019—It continued to be a solid start to the yearling sale season this weekend at the 43rd annual LQHBA Yearling Sale in Kinder, LA, as a record-breaking $605,000 Jet Black Patriot colt topped a competitive marketplace that was up across-the-board from 2018.

From the 579 horses coffered, LQHBA reported 448 horses sold for gross sales of $7,605,200, up 15% from the $6,616,100 paid for 461 yearlings in 2018. The average price rose 18% from $14,352 to $16,976, and the median increased nearly 10% from $8,200 to $9,000 this year. The 101 horses that did not sell represented an RNA rate that was down 26% from a year ago.

The 2019 LQHBA sale topper Son Of A Rouge, consigned as Hip 340 by Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent for Triple M Farms, LLC, sold in the second session on Friday and was purchased by TM Ranch.

The state-bred son of multiple stakes sire Jet Black Patriot is out of the stakes winning Mr Jess Perry mare Miss Jess Rogue. He is a full or half-sibling to nine black-type including stakes winner and RG1-placed Jet Black Rogue, multiple stakes winner Heza Fast Rogue and Old South Futurity winner Jess A Rogue.

It was a record setting day on Friday with the sale's second highest-seller, Hip 195 A Real Train, selling for $550,000 to Margarito Espinoza. The colt by first-year sale crop sire and multiple stakes winner Bp Wagon Train is out of the Streakin La Jolla mare A Real Tornado. Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent for Stablewood Farm consigned the brown colt.

The sale's third high-seller Hip 172 Veep, also sold on Friday and was purchased by Mickey W. Tiner from the consignment of Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent for Bennie and Terry Jeter. The daughter of leading second-crop sire Apollitical Blood is the first foal out of AQHA Racing Champion 3-Year-Old Filly Volcom Bay, by Volcom.

Saturday's closing session high-seller was Hip 505, a One Sweet Jess filly to Jerry Deville's Runaway Racing for $105,000. Tate Farms, Agent consigned sorrel filly out of stakes-placed Tf Lil Black Oak by Oak Tree Special.

There were seven six-figure yearlings sold in the 2019 sale.

TM Ranch was the sale's leading buyer with two purchases totaling $705,000. Judd Kearl, Agent signed the ticket on 17 head for $674,000. Margarito Espinoza had three head for $655,000.

Robicheaux Ranch, Inc. took the top three leading consignor or agent spots in the sale with Agent for Triple M Farms LLC selling four head for $741,000, Agent for Stablewood Farm, selling six head for $597,200 and Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent representing 18 yearlings for $459,200.

First sale-crop sire Bp Wagon Train was the leading overall sale sire (by average with two or more sold) with four yearlings averaging $141,850. First-crop sire Apollitical Blood had 22 yearlings average $38,518 and Jet Black Patriot had 26 for $34,712 average.

Another first sale-crop sire, champion Open Me A Corona, enjoyed 10 yearlings who averaged $21,670.
