$102,000 Apollitical Blood Colt Tops Opening Night of 43rd annual Louisiana Bred Yearling Sale

KINDER, LA—AUGUST 1, 2019—The Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders' Association kicked off the first season of their three-day sale for state-bred yearilngs on Thursday at the Coushatta Resort in Kinder.

The opening session saw 123 of the 159 yearlings offered gross $1,707,800, compared to 110 yearlings sold in 2018's opening session for $1,717,600. The first session average fell slightly to $13,998 compared to last year's opening night record of $15,615. The 2019 first session median rose 6% to $8,200 from $7,750 in 2018.

Judd Kearl, Agent, purchased Thursday's high-seller, Hip 149 Tipsy Blood, for $102,000 from the consignment of Robicheaux Ranch, Inc. Agent. The sorrel colt by 2019's #2 leading first-crop sire of money earners, Apollitical Blood is out of Tipsy Kitty, by Tres Seis, and is a half-brother to stakes-placed Non Stop Patriot. This is the family of leading sire Apollitical Jess.

Wilson One Consulting LLC paid $80,000 for the second high-seller, a Heza Fast Dash filly from the first crop of stakes winner and RG1-placed Jet Black Rouge by Jet Black Patriot. Spring Hill Farms consigned Hip 97 from the half-sister to stakes winner Heza Fast Rogue, Jess A Rouge, Zoomin Jr and Game Gone Rogue.

Judd Kearl, Agent also purchased the #3 high-seller in Thursday's opening session, Hip 81 Shining Runaway, a half-sister to 2018 LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity(RG1) winner Mpshinning. Grant Farms consigned the Sir Runaway Dash filly out of Shinningperrydash by First To Shine.

Kearl was the first session leading buyer with seven yearlings grossing $283,900. Runaway Racing had three purchases for $80,000 and Wilson One Consulting LLC the one yearling above for $80,00.

Grant Farms, LLC was the leading consignor or agent in the first session with seven yearlings for $181,000, Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent had three head gross $170,000 and Spring Hill Farms sold three for $117,500.

Leading first-crop sire Apollitical Blood was the opening session leading sire (by average with two or more sold) with four yearlings averaging $36,875. Leading sires Heza Fast Dash had 12 yearlings average $29,017 while Sir Runway Dash sold 10 for a $24,450 average.

First sale-crop sire Open Me A Corona saw 10 yearlings pass through the ring for a $20,250 average in the first session.

Session Two, hips 161 thru 414 will start promptly at 10:00 a.m. on Friday and the final session, set Saturday at 10:00 a.m., will offer hips 415 thru 625.

The 43rd annual Louisiana Bred Yearling Sale features 625 yearlings eligible to participate in the nations #1 state bred program. Louisiana-bred horses run for more than $20 million in purse money each year with a guaranteed minimum 148 Quarter Horse race days. All yearlings passing through the ring have been nominated to the $1 million 2020 LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity(RG1).
