Moonin Princess Best In 50,000 Treme Derby(RG3) at Fair Grounds Race Course

NEW ORLEANS, LA–AUGUST 17, 2024–Moonin Princess scored her first career stakes win on Saturday in the $50,000 Treme Derby(RG3) for state-bred 3-year-olds at Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans.
Jockey Yaidel Rodriguez piloted the daughter of champion Moonin The Eagle to her fourth career win in 16 starts. She defeated the post-time favorite, One Sweet Sugar, by a head while completing the 350 yards in 17.712 seconds, equaling an 89-speed index with a three mph tailwind.
Trainer Alex Clark conditions the $14,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale graduate for owner Efrain Ortiz. Darrell Williams bred the brown filly from the Corona Cartel mare Princess Of Torts. The Treme winners' purse, valued at $30,000, boosted her lifetime earnings to $103,574.
Multiple graded stakes winner One Sweet Sugar, winless in five starts this season, earned $10,000 for finishing second. Last year's Lee Berwick Futurity(G1) winner was second in the recent Delta Downs Louisiana Bred Oaks and third in the Old South Derby this season.

Jeremy Derozin trains the Louisiana homebred for owner-breeder Rogelio Marquez, Jr. Leonardo Rodriguez had the riding call aboard the One Sweet Jess filly from the Heza Fast Dash mare Sugarshaker B. The $10,000 Treme payday brings One Sweet Sugar's earnings to $590,870.
Bouncing off a troubled tenth-place finish in the Delta Downs LA-Bred Derby(RG3) in his last start, Explosive Legend finished a nose back in the blanket finish to earn $5,500 for third.
Owned-and-trained by David Bustamante, Explosive Legend was ridden by Juan Garcia, Jr. Mercy Hinklins Horse Farm LLC bred the gelding from the Tres Seis mare Legendary Seis.
Tk Sweet Eyes, Kp Paintmeeasymphony, Wild Blue Debutant, and San Lorenzo Rose completed the field.
