Always Me Proves Best In A Slight Upset In $40,000 Lassie Stakes at Delta Downs

VINTON, LA–MAY 24, 2024–Semi-longshot Always Me proved best and got her second career win in the $40,000 Lassie Stakes at Delta Downs Friday night.
Ricardo Hernandez, Jr. piloted Always Me to her 330-yard victory in :16.926 seconds, clocking an 88 speed index. The slight upset paid $20.80 to win on 9/1 odds.
Always Me’s 1/2-length victory makes her record 2-0-0 from two starts, and the $24,000 winner’s check increased her bankroll to $30,000.

Karen Darling Falguoust bred Always Me in Louisiana out of the First Comment mare Come An Get Me. The daughter of Carters Cartel is owned by Glenn Fontenot and trained by David Bustamante.
Lady Coco Piloto, ridden by Mario Trujillo, placed second to Always Me. The daughter of Mr Piloto broke her maiden in the Mardi Gras Futurity trials at Louisiana Downs, returning to the Grade 2 finals for a ninth place finish. The Riley Aguilar trained filly has $22,476 in earnings.
Third place finisher Ruse Gold was ridden by Jorge Garcia. Trainer Raul Galvan saddled the daughter of Gold Heart Eagle V for owner/breeder Ruse Ranch, LLC.
Ruse Gold has lit the board three out of three starts with a record of 1-2-3 and $11,800 in the bank. She is out of Cosmo Traffic by Cosmograph.
Jp Special Jolla, San Lorenzo Patrona, Jess Bye Louisiana, Just Beaukas I Can, This Ladys Leaving and Without A Trace complete the order of finish.
