Roundin Third Fastest In Mardi Gras Futurity Schooling Races On Wednesday


Roundin Third, under jockey Raul Ramirez, Jr., easily defeated Venus Tlc in Race 13, to set the fastest time from 16 Mardi Gras Futurity(RG2) schooling races on Wednesday at Louisiana Downs.

BOSSIER CITY, LA–FEBRUARY 8, 2023–Roundin Third, a son of world champion sire Stoli, posted the fastest time from 94 Louisiana bred 2-year-olds who made their career debut today at Louisiana Downs in 16 non-wagering 220 yard schooling races for juveniles who remain eligible to the $400,000-est. Mardi Gras Futurity (RG2).

The Mardi Gras Futurity trials will be contested over two days, March 3 and 4 and the 300 yard finale will run back on Saturday, March 25.

Under jockey Raul Ramirez, Jr., Roundin Third completed the 220 yards in :12.508 seconds in the 13th race on Wednesday to establish the top time. Trainer Ferando Valdez conditions the sorrel colt for the partnership of Jerome Bellard, Dominic Bellard and  Scott Lejune.

Roundin Third is out of the RG3-placed First Prize Perry mare Allizoom. She is the dam of three winners including multiple graded stakes-placed Put Me N Coach ($92,484 to 3, 2022) and stakes-placed and RG1 qualifier Shortstop Express ($104,667). The second dam is the champion 2-year-old filly Lett Her Zoom ($309,167).

Mister Tsunami, a son of first-crop sire Rip Tide, was a daylight winner in the ninth race to secure the second fastest clocking of :12.514 seconds. Jockey Arnulfo Gutierrez had the riding call aboard the gray gelding for trainer Guillermo Martinez.

Rene Adan Rodriguez owns the 2-year-old out of Forever Game, by Game Patriot.  The second dam is the RG3-placed Dashin Now mare Dashin Classy Lady ($77,386).

Eyes Just Pretty got the third fastest clocking after defeating This Eagle Flies (#4) in the 12th race.

Eyesa Just Pretty, a $13,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale graduate racing for owner Blackmon Quarter Horses LLC, won the 12th race to get the third fastest time of :12.544 seconds.

Trainer Janessa Muniz named jockey Eric Reyes to ride the daughter of champion Carters Cartel.

Eyesa Just Pretty is the first foal out of the stakes-placed Songandaprayer thoroughbred mare Eye Craft ($129,137), a sister to three-time champion imported sprinter Crime Of Passion ($148,324). This is the family of Horse of the Year Holy Bull ($2,481,760), stakes winner Advert ($230,498), etc.

Owner Jaime Cardenas had two winners, Jrs Majestic Speed in Race 7 and Dashingwithgrand in Race 8.

Dwayne Breaux led all trainers with three winners on the card while Guillermo Martinez and Martin Trejo had two each. Luis Ruiz was the leading rider with three winners, while Arturo Alvarez and Ubaldo Luna had two each.

Majestic Cartel and The Louisiana Cartel had two winners each on the schooling card. Other sires with winners were Apollitical Blood, BP Wagon Train, FDD Going Grand, Freighttrain B, Mr Piloto, Open Me A Corona, Paint Me Perry, Sun Runaway Dash and Tee Cos.
