VINTON, LA–JULY 16, 2022–Fastest qualifier San Lorenzo Jet returned to Delta Downs tonight to claim the winner's purse of the $744,302 restricted Grade 1 Lee Berwick Futurity.

Under jockey David Alvarez San Lorenzo Jet broke on top and then drove to a 1-1/2 length win over Ruse Splash Train while clocking the 350 yards in :17.440, a 94 speed index.

It was the fourth win in as many starts and the second graded stakes victory for the son of multiple stakes sire Jet Black Patriot. Owner Rogelio Marquez, Jr. paid $49,000 for the bay colt at the LQHBA Yearling Sale in Kinder, Louisiana last August.

"I honestly thought he was the best colt in the LQHBA Yearling Sale," said winning owner Rogelio Marquez, Jr. "I told the breeder that and I think they believe me now! Winning this race never gets old and we are pleased to honor our home of San Lorenzo, Mexico with our champion Quarter Horse"

Under the direction of trainer Jesus Marquez, San Lorenzo Jet broke his maiden in his career debut, a trial for the Laddie Futurity(RG2) on May 6. He returned May 28 to win the $331,880 Laddie final.  In his previous start San Lorenzo Jet posted the fastest qualifying time for the Lee Berwick Futurity after two nights of trials were conducted June 24 and 25.

"He's just an amazing horse; does everything right, "trainer Marquez said. "When the horse next to him flipped in the gate, he just soldiered on and did his job."

San Lorenzo Jet has won all of four of his career starts by a combined 5-3/4 lengths and tonight's $372,151 Lee Berwick winner's purse boosted his earnings total to $663,410.

Bred by Tim and Jennie Rogers' Rogers Farms, San Lorenzo Jet's dam is the stakes-placed Fly Jess Fly mare Miss Delta Duck. The bay yearling sold under the name Rf Delta Jet in the sale, but Marquez changes he names of almost all his sale purchases every year in honor of the town in Mexico, San Lorenzo, that his family hails from.

"This is our biggest accomplishment for our breeding program so far," said Jennie Rogers. "We have a great group of broodmares and this Horse is very special. We thank mr. Marquez for buying him and racing him in Louisiana."

A slight surprise at 10-1 odds, Ruse Splash Train rallied under jockey J.R. Ramirez to finish second for owner-breeder Ruse Ranch, LLC. Luis Ramirez trains the daughter of world champion sire Freighttrain B from the Mr Jess Perry mare Perrys Splash N Dash. The $126,532 payday boosted her earning to $137,432.

Champion trainer Kenneth Roberts, Sr.'s Konnan Cartel finished a nose back to earn $74,430 for third. Dania Castellanos owns the gelded son of multiple stakes sire Five Bar Cartel. Ublado Luna had the riding assignment.  Konnan Cartel was fourth in the Laddie Futurity(RG2) two starts back and has earned $130,127 off three win in six starts this year. Luis Armando Castellanos is the breeder.

Sent to the gate as a heavy favorite at odds of 1-5, San Lorenzo Jet returned $2.40 to win, $2.40 to place and $2.10 to show. Ruse Splash Train paid $6.60 to place and $3.60 to show. Konnan Cartel was worth $2.60.

Tf One Sweet Wokatee, Jeg Fasination, Carters Wild Cat and San Lorenzo Train completed the field. Party Tyme and Xtra were both scratched.
