Masons Jet Black Bounces To Get Live Oak Stakes Victory at Delta Downs Saturday

VINTON, LA–JULY 16, 2022–Masons Jet Black bounced off a sixth-place finish in the Virgil Bond Stakes on June 11th to defeat post time favorite Sarahs Patriot by three-quarters in the $50,000 Live Oak Stakes, the first of an eight-race stakes card tonight (JUL 15) at Delta Downs.

Under jockey Paulina Ramirez, Masons Jet Black showed speed from the start and held on to win by three-quarters while completing the 870 yards in :46.779 seconds into a 5 mph crosswind, It was the sixth career win for the 5-year-old son multiple stakes sire Jet Black Patriot who earned $30,000 for the effort.

"He was ready tonight after running in the Virgil Bond off the layoff," Ramirez said following her winning ride. "He broke well and we were pleased with his win."

Juan Cano conditions the Louisiana-bred gelding for owner Gidget Dugas. Trey Ellis bred the $133,623 earner from the Thoroughbred mare Ruston Kitty by Eugene's Third Son. The multiple stakes winner won the Governor's Cup Marathon at Sam Houston last season.

Looking for her third consecutive after taking the Virgil Bond in her last start, Sarahs Patriot had to settle for second for owner Gilbert Matthews. Phillip Calais, Jr. trains the Game Patriot filly from the Into Mischief (TB) mare Sarahintomischief (TB). Juan Garcia, Jr. was up to earn $10,000. The 4-year-old filly's earnings mark is now $94,223.

One Fast Cajun, a 4-year-old leading sire Heza Fast Dash, finished 2-1/4 lengths back to earn $5,500 for third. Danny Hoda trains the Louisiana-bred for owners Darrin Ladner and Norman Ladner. Terry Gabriel bred One Fast Cajun from the Lion Tamer (TB) mare Cajun Rocket (TB). He has earned $60,210.

Midnight Biscuit, Lolas Lil Ed, Jess Louisiana Boo, Freighttrain Z and Agoutis Snowplow completed the field.
