VINTON, LA–JUNE 4 2022— Delta Downs hosted the $50,000 Miss Polly Classic Stakes (G2) on Saturday night as the track closed out its sixth week of American Quarter Horse racing for 2022.

The event was won by the accomplished gelding Shott Gun, who races for his owner and breeder Bobby D. Cox and trainer Heath Taylor.

Under jockey Gilbert Ortiz, Shott Gun broke well in field of eight but ran evenly with most of his rivals until mid-stretch, when he attempted to pull clear but was hounded by Hezaa Fast Boy. With 100 yards to go the pair ran shoulder to shoulder to the finish line where Shott Gun got a narrow decision by just a head. It was another length back to third-place finisher Jj Heza Fast Dash Jr.

Shott Gun covered 400 yards in the Miss Polly Classic in a time of 19.942 which equaled a speed index of 88. The race was run over a track listed as wet fast.

The win by Shott Gun was the seventh of his 14-race career. He took home $30,000 for the win and now boasts a sizable bankroll of $543,509. The majority of his earnings came as a 2-year-old when he won the $826,000 Heritage Place Futurity (G1).
