Fastest Qualifier San Lorenzo Jet Returns to Win $331,880 Laddie Futurity (RG2) at Delta Downs


San Lorenzo Jet, under jockey David Alvarez, rolls to victory in the $331,747 Louisiana Laddie Futurity(RG2) Saturday at Delta Downs.

VINTON, LA – MAY 28, 2022 – It was a formful running of the $331,880 Laddie Futurity (RG2), the feature race of the Saturday evening card at Delta Downs as the two fastest qualifiers, San Lorenzo Jet and Zoominseperately, returned to finish first and second in the final.

San Lorenzo Jet ($3.00) gained an early lead and won by a length and a half as the heavy post-time favorite. The final time for the 330-yard stake was :16.701, giving the winner a 90 speed index and besting his own qualifying time.

San Lorenzo Jet picked up the winner’s share of $169,259 in the win.

The fastest qualifier from 16 trials on May 6 and 7, San Lorenzo Jet made his career debut in his trial for the Laddie, the fifth of eight races on the first night of trials.  

The Jet Black Patriot colt put an early lead on the field and was ahead by three lengths at one point in the effort. He and jockey David Alvarez won by a length at the wire and set the fastest overall time of 16.781. Alvarez returned to ride the undefeated colt in the final.

San Lorenzo Jet is trained by Jesus Marquez for owner Rogelio Marquez, Jr. He was bred by Tim & Jennie Rogers of Rogers Farm, out of the stakes placed mare Miss Delta Duck, by Fly Jess Fly.

Second place finisher Zoominseperately was the fastest from the second night and the second fastest overall qualifier. Roberto Madrigal trains for owner Maria Garza; he was bred by Teddy Berry out of the Separatist mare Ms Proverbial.

Zoominseperately was undefeated in two career starts heading into the final, ridden all three times by Victor Urieta, Jr. The son of Zoomin for Bux broke his maiden in his debut as the winner of his Mardi Gras Futurity trial at Louisiana Downs prior to winning his trial. Zoominseperately’s trial was so fast that three horses from the same race all qualified for the final.

He has earned $67,148 in three lifetime starts.

Diamondonatrain completed the trifecta at 25-1 with Manuel Gutierrez aboard for trainer Pedro Lopez and owner J and J Stone Co, Inc. The Freighttrain B gelding was bred by Kenneth Garcia, out of the graded stakes placed mare Very Intriguing, by Jess Louisiana Blue.

The seventh fastest qualifier won his trial, the third from the second night of trials, and has two wins from four starts with $46,392.

Completing the field were Konnan Cartel, Happy Flyer, Ja Zooms, Jj Jess a Shadow, Perrys Midnight Dash and Big Daddys Blue Eyes. Tha Duke was scratched.

Delta Downs will race live again next Wednesday through Saturday. First post time each evening will be at 6:15 pm (CDT).
