VINTON, LA—MAY 27, 2022— Delta Downs kicked off a big weekend of American Quarter Horse racing on Friday night with a nine-race program featuring the $310,695 Lassie Futurity (RG2) for 2-year-old Louisiana-bred fillies. The race was won in dominant fashion by Cecilia Mucio’s Btrain, who was ridden to victory by jockey J. R. Ramirez.

The victory by Btrain, who is trained by Inez Delacruz, was her first in stakes company. Her undefeated record coming into the race included victories in the Mardi Futurity trials at Louisiana Downs in March and the trial for Friday’s big event on May 4.

She earned $155,347 for the score and now owns a bankroll of $164,947.

Staring in post position eight in a field of 10, Btrain broke sharply and battled for the lead early in the 330-yard showdown before getting clear late to win by 1-1/2 lengths over San Lorenzo Moon. The photo for third was won by Cool Ya Jets, but she was eventually disqualified and placed 10th for interference to rivals in mid-stretch. The disqualification moved up Mamigotthis to the show spot.

Btrain covered the distance in a time of :16.822, which equaled a speed index of 86. Each race on the program was contested over a fast track and there was no wind to speak of.

Btrain is a 2-year-old bay filly by world champion sire Frighttrain B, out of the Lock To Load mare Bang Bang Bang. She was bred in the Bayou State by Tye E. Smith and was purchased at the 2021 Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association Yearling Sale for $27,000.

Runner-up San Lorenzo Moon earned $52,818 for her second-place effort. The royally bred daughter of leading sire Apollitical Blood, out of the multiple Grade 1 winning Heza Fast Dash mare Dashunder Afullmoon, races for owner-breeder Rogelio Marquez, Jr.

San Lorenzo Moon  was trying to duplicate her dam, Dashunder Afullmoon, record who won the Lassie Futurity(RG2) at Delta Downs in 2017. David Alvarez was aboard the $58,818 earner.

Mamaigotthis was moved from fourth to third after the stewards disqualified Cool Ya Jets for inference and placed her last.  Wendy Garcia trains the daughter of multiple stakes sire Jet Black Patriot for owner Three Muskoteers.

Modesto Pinta had the riding call on the bay filly out of Duachais by Pyc Paint Your Wagon. Lester Colomb, Jr. is the breeder. She earned $31,069 for the effort

Completing the official order of finish were Mazzikeen, Amadeo Perry, Jeg Fascination, Eagle Watchn, Sweet London Rose, Cos Mamma Said and Cool Ya Jets.

Sent to the post at odds of 5-2, Btrain returned $7.80 to win, $4.40 to place and $3.20 to show. San Lorenzo Moon was worth $3.60 to place and $2.60 to show. Mamaigotthis paid $6 to show.

Delta Downs will close out the race week on Saturday with another nine-race program that starts at 6:15 pm. Saturday’s card features the $331,880 Laddie Futurity (RG2) and the Vinton Stakes.
