Whatahistoric Moment Dominates EVD 550 Stakes

OPELOUSAS, LA—DECEMBER 30, 2021—Old South Futurity winner Whatahistoric Moment posted a dominating 1-¼ length win over 60-1 longshot Cartel Ought To Go in the $35,000 EVD 550 Stakes at Evangeline Downs Thursday night.

Post-time favorite Eyeondaprize finished third but was disqualified and placed fifth for interference, moving Maggies Runaway to show position.

Under jockey David Alvarez, Whatahistoric Moment covered the 550 yards in :26.977 seconds, equaling a 105 speed index into 5 mph headwind. It was the sixth career win for the son of multiple stakes sire FDD Going Grand and the $15,000 winner's purse brings the 3-year-old's earning total to $172,352.

Lanny Keith conditions the sorrel gelding for owner-breeder Mercy Hinklin's Horse Farm LLC. Whatahistoric Moment is out of the graded stakes winning Jet Black Patriot mare Jetblack Gold Moment.

Runner-up Cartel Ought to Go returned $41.40 to place and $19.40 to show. Josue Huitron trains the Five Bar Cartel 3-year-old for owner Ruse Ranch LLC. Fulton Quien Sabe Ranches LP bred the gray gelding in Texas from the Separatist mare Dying Inside. Ridden by jockey Bobby Ransom, Cartel Ought To Go picked up $5,000 to bring his earnings to $28,392.

Maggies Runaway earned $3,850 for third. Trainer Manuel Macias saddled the Sir Runaway Dash filly for owner Jose Barron. Philip Bruchhaus bred the gray filly in Louisiana from the First Down Dash mare Ms Maggies First. Jose Rodriguez had the riding call aboard the multiple stakes-placed earner of $75,845.

Whatahistoric Moment returned $16.40 to win, $8.80 to place and $5.80 to show. Cartel Ought to Go returned a whopping $41.40 to place and $19.40 to show. Maggies Runaway returned $5 to show.

Completing the official order of finish were Big Dynasty, Eyeondaprize, Hezjessmagic, Favorite Kool Cartel, Stone Cold Leader, Dyno Man and Moment Of Fury.
