VINTON, LA—MAY 24, 2021—Delta Downs kicked off its third week of American Quarter Horse racing on Monday and the 10-race program featured the only stakes event of the week, the $33,900 Delta 550.

The 550-yard test for 3-year-olds and up was won by Rosendo Valdez’s Dirtwater Dash with jockey Everardo Rodriguez in the saddle for trainer Rosendo Valdez, Jr.

Breaking from the inside post position in a field of seven, Dirtwater Dash battled for the lead with Maggies Runaway through the initial strides before gaining the upper hand late.

The gray runner eventually hit the finish line 1-¾ lengths in front of Maggies Runaway while stopping the clock in a time of 26.648 seconds over a fast track, which equaled a 107 speed index.

Corona Louisiana Blu finished third, another head behind the top pair.

The win by Dirtwater Dash marked his fourth tally in a row. He earned $21,000 for the effort and now boasts a lifetime bankroll of $44,339 during his 10-race career.

Bred in Louisiana by Michael Carlton, Dirtwater Dash is a 3-year-old gray gelding by Sir Runaway Dash, out of the Dashin Bye mare Dashin Kate Perry.
