San Lorenzeaux Sets Fastest Time For Laddie Futurity(RG2) At Delta Downs

VINTON, LA—MAY 22, 2021—Delta Downs closed out its race week on Saturday afternoon with a special program that included 16 qualifying trials for this year’s $346,842 Louisiana Laddie Futurity (RG2) for colts and geldings.

The final of the Laddie will take place on Saturday, June 12 along with the $318,983 Louisiana Lassie Futurity (RG2) para potrancas.

The fastest qualifier for the Laddie Futurity was Rogelio Marquez, Jr.’s San Lorenzeaux, who took the 15th trial of the day under jockey Luis Vivanco, who also rode the second fastest qualifier Ultimo Alex.

The winner is trained by Hector Alcala. Alcala also trains the ninth fastest qualifier and another Marquez runner, San Lorenzito.

San Lorenzeaux was making his debut in the Laddie trials and ran like a seasoned professional leading gate-to-wire and stopping the clock in a time of 16.564 seconds over a track that was sealed and muddy. The clocking equaled a speed index of 94.

Lorenzeaux earned $7,200 for his effort in the Laddie trials but could take home a much bigger check coming up in three weeks. The winner’s prize in the final is $173,421.

Bred in Louisiana by Kenneth Garcia, San Lorenzeaux is a bay gelding by Carters Cartel, out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Scoopie Coochie. He was purchased at the LQHBA Yearling Sale for $29,000.

Apollitical Blood sired three of 10 qualifiers. Jess Louisiana Blue and One Sweet Jess sired two qualifiers each.

Delta Downs now looks forward to its third week of racing next Monday through Thursday. Post time each day is at 3 pm. The week’s only stakes race will take place on Monday when the $25,000 Delta 550 takes center stage.
