Cottonpickintrain Posts Fastest Time For Old South Futurity In Career Debut at Delta Downs


Cottonpickintrain, under jockey Juan Marquez, cruises to the fastest qualifying time to the Old South Futurity Tuesday afternoon at Delta Downs.

VINTON, LA—MAY 11, 2021—Cottonpickintrain, a royally-bred son of All American Futurity(G1) sire Freighttrain B, broke his maiden in his career debut Tuesday afternoon at Delta Downs.

Under jockey Juan Marquez Cottonpickintrain rallied early to clear the field by a 1-˝ lengths while completing the 330 yards in :16.883 seconds, the fastest time from seven trial races contested for the $95,585 Old South Futurity.

Trainer Trey Ellis conditions the South Carolina-bred gelding for owner-breeder Gene Cox. Cottonpickintrain is out of the Mr Jess Perry Jess A Dreamgirl, a half-sister to champion American Runaway.

In his second career start, BP Fling In A Wagon broke his maiden under jockey Jorge Garcia in the third trial to get the second fastest time of :16.969 seconds. Trainer Richard G. Washington conditions the $30,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate for owner Juan Montova.

In his only other start BP Fling In A Wagon was seventh in a trial for the Harrah's Futurity(G3) at Louisiana Downs. Bill Price bred the colt by leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon in Oklahoma from the Southern Cartel mare Southern Fling.
