LQHBA Sale Graduate Is Fastest In Retama Park Training Races


Retama Park hosted eight schooling races for 2-year-olds on Tuesday.

SELMA, TX—FEBRUARY 2, 2021—Much anticipated training races got underway today for the new crop of just turned 2-year-olds and Miapatriot posted the fastest time from 48 first time starters at Retama Park.

The track hosted a nine-race training card on Tuesday with races 2 thru 9 cosigned to Quarter Horse foals of 2019 going 250 yards.

Miapatriot, a $12,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale graduate, posted the fastest time with a :13.81 clocking under jockey Victor Urieta, Jr. in Race 6.

Alonso Neri saddled the daughter of Game Patriot from the stakes winning Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Pyc First Prize Mia for owner Davie Gutierrez. Miapatriot is a half-sister to multiple stakes-placed Mia Jet In. Lester Colomb, Jr. is the breeder.

Saddled by trainer Santos Riojas, Jr., Coronadito tied for the second fastest clocking of :13.82 seconds while winning Race 2 under jockey Nester Duran. Florentino Leon owns the son of last year's leading third-crop sire Coronado Cartel. The Texas homebred is out of Winners Check by Gol To Go.

Cruz Nava's Jess Sweet Enough tied for the second-fastest clocking of :13.82 seconds in Race 7. The $28,000 LQHBA Yearling graduate by multiple stakes sire One Sweet Jess is out of the Corona Cartel mare Devilwithabluedress. Jess Sweet Enough is from the immediate family of world champion Blues Girl Too and was bred by Watson Land & Cattle. The winning trainer and jockey were not available.

Neri saddled three winners on the card today including Hock It To You, a $35,000 TQHA Sale graduate who posted the fourth fastest time of :13.85 seconds in Race 9. Heavy Hitters RFG Stables and R. Munoz own the Kiss My Hocks colt out of stakes winner and stakes-producer Lil Famous Dash by One Famous Eagle. Hock It To You is a brother to stakes-placed Reigning Kisses. Tyler Graham and Conda Maze bred the colt in Texas.

Neri led all trainers with three winners while Riojas, Jr. had two. One Sweet Jess led all sires with two winners. Other sires with winners on today's card were Hez Fast As Cash, first-crop sire Mister Fulton and The Louisiana Cartel.
