On Point Wins The $35,000 Gentilly Dash On Saturday Night At Evangeline Downs

OPELOUSAS, LA—OCTOBER 2, 2020—Saturday was a banner night for the pairing of trainer Kenny Roberts and jockey David Alvarez. They combined to win three races on the evening, including the featured $35,000 Gentilly Dash with On Point, who scored a ½-length victory over The Cazador.

The gelding covered the 300-yard distance in a time of 15.179 seconds over the fast track, equaling a speed index of 103.

On Point was bred in Louisiana by Ryan and Jude Robicheaux. The 4-year-old Five Bar Cartel gelding, from the Streakin La Jolla mare La Jollan Queen, is owned by TM Ranch. He has now won five of 13 career starts and the $21,000 first-place purse increases his lifetime earnings to $110,832.

Runner-up The Cazador races for owner Rayne Knight. Michael Zingelmann trains the stakes winning son of leading Louisiana sire Sir Runaway Dash from the Toast To Dash mare Told Ya. Donald Watson was aboard to earn $7,000 for the effort. Zingelmann and Curtis Crewnwelge bred the 5-year-old earner of $219,195.

LQHBA Louisiana Million winner Mardi Gras Paint increased his bankroll to $488,475 with a third-place finish for owner Jose Alfonso Ramos. Miguel Rodriguez trains the Paint Me Perry 3-year-old from the Royal Quick Dash mare Summertime Dash. Eddie Crammer and Bill Maher is the breeder.

On Point returned $15.20 to win, $6.20 to place and $4.80 to show. The Cazador paid $5.20 to place and $3.20 to show, while Mardi Gras Paint paid $6 to show.

Mag 1, Rf Fast Dash N Blue, Tuckers Prize, Corona Down Perry, Hh Gailforce, Brileys Prize and Jess A Runaway Blaze completed the field.

Earlier on the Saturday night program, Kenny Roberts and David Alvarez teamed up to win the first race with Getting Some of That and the sixth race with Louisianas Girl. Alvarez also managed to win a fourth race on the card by taking the seventh race with Tf Toast to Whiskey for trainer Frank Cavazos.
