Sweet Bru Edges Out La Mos Corona in Lakeview Dash at the Fair Grounds

NEW ORLEANS, LA—SEPTEMBER 8, 2018—Sweet Bru added another stakes win to her list of career accomplishments in the $40,000 Lakeview Dash at the Fair Grounds on Saturday afternoon.

With Damian Martinez aboard, Sweet Bru finished the 250-yard race in 13.018 and earned a speed index of 101.

Sweet Bru ($6.40) was the second choice of the wagering public, defeating post-time favorite La Mos Corona by a head at the wire.

Sweet Bru is a 5-year-old Louisiana-bred mare by Embrujo Fg, out of the Dashin Bye mare Dashin Sweetpea. She is trained by Gary Mason for owner Jose Ortiz and was bred by Ceburn Baker, Jr.

The mare now has eight wins in 19 career starts and earnings of $128,505. She was second in this same race last year and has finished in the money in 12 of her last 13 starts.

La Mos Corona was the deserving favorite after winning the Open Me a Corona Stakes (RG2) and the Flashy Hemp stakes at Delta and running second in the Audubon Stakes at the Fair Grounds in her last three starts.

The classy mare also strung together a four-race win streak over the winter. She has eight wins and seven second-place finishes in 21 career starts, with earnings of $181,177.

Floriberto Maldonado, her usual rider, was aboard La Mos Corona again on Saturday for trainer Orlando Orozco and owners M&M Stables. She was bred in Louisiana by Oscar Rhone, by Coronas Leaving You and out of Royal Winning Colors, by Royal Quick Dash.

Veteran rider John Hamilton piloted Lil Bro Big Streak to a third-place finish in the short stake. The duo finished second in their last start, the Gentilly Dash, also at the Fair Grounds.

Lil Bro Big Streak is a 4-year-old gelding by Jet Black Patriot. He was bred in Louisiana by Bobby Miller, out of the Streakin La Jolla mare Anna Streakin Dash. Rosendo Valdez owns and trains.

Completing the field were Bjs Magic Wings, Buzzinga, Jrs Coronas Shadow, Patriots Leaving You, Glens Dashing Snow and Da Pool Do. Non Stop Patriot was scratched.
