Parti Wagon Streaks To Fastest Time In The Firecracker Futurity Trials


Parti Wagon, under jockey Rolando Pina, setting the fastest time from 10 trails contested Friday at Delta Downs for the $363,675 Firecracker Futurity (G2).

VINTON, LA—JUNE 9, 2018—Delta Downs closed out its eighth week of live American Quarter Horse racing on Saturday by hosting 10 qualifying trials for this year’s $363,675 Firecracker Futurity (G2), which will be held on Independence Day, July 4.

The fastest horse of the night was the Indiana-bred Parti Wagon, who drilled 350 yards over a muddy track in a time of :17.587 seconds, which earned him a speed index of 92 under jockey Rolando Pina. The Joe Davis owned-and-trained colt took part in the ninth trial and won it by a margin of 1-¼ lengths.

Parti Wagon came into the Firecracker trials off a fourth-place finish in the $112,305 Old South Futurity at Delta Downs on May 12. His only previous win from three starts came in the Old South trials, a race he also qualified for with the fastest time.

Also homebred for Davis, Parti Wagon is son of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon from the Okey Dokey Dale mare Sheisassheis. He has earned $15,061 in four starts this year.

Sent to the gate as a heavy betting favorite, Parti Wagon paid $4 to win, $3.60 to place and $2.40 to show.

Sam Houston Futurity(G2) winner Fm Im A Zatanaz Too kept his record a perfect 3-for-3 with an impressive 2-¾ length win in the seventh trial to get the second fastest clocking of :17.605 seconds, a 91 speed index.

Manuel Gutierrez had the riding call for trainer Robert Meche aboard the stakes winning son of champion sire Tempting Dash. Jose Fabian Hernandez owns the $181,640 earner from the Mr Jess Perry mare Dashingfordestiny. McColee Land & Livestock LLC from Utah is the breeder.

Patriotic Games, who finished second a neck off Fm Im A Zatanaz Too in the Sam Houston Futurity(G1), coasted to a one-length win and the third fastest clocking of :17.648 seconds, a 90 speed index, in the sixth trial.

Eduard Morales conditions the son of all-time leading sire First Down Dash for owner Ramiro Jaime Flores, Sr. Bred in Texas by Bob and Jerry Gaston, Patriotic Games has compiled a (5) 2-3-0 record. He was also second in the Grade 3 Harrah's Entertainment Futurity at Louisiana Downs in March. Out of the Game Patriot mare Miss Game Tee, the brown colt has earned $117,572.
