Krash Course Battles Jess Real Fast For Fastest Trial Mark for Firecracker Derby

VINTON, LA—JUNE 8, 2018—Making his first start in nearly a year, the lightly raced Krash Course defeated Jess Real Fast by a head to set the fastest qualifying time for the $212,005 Firecracker Derby Friday evening at Delta Downs.

The 10 fastest qualifiers from the four trial races contested Friday will return to the Vinton, Louisiana racecourse on Saturday, June 30th to vie for the winner's purse valued at $98,900 while going 400 yards.

Ridden by jockey Jose Martinez, Krash Course dueled best late while completing the 400 yards in :19.643 seconds, a 95 speed index, to establish the top mark. Roberto Madrigal conditions the son of Krash Cartel for owner Martha Nevarez.

Bred in Texas by Bennie and Terri Jeter, from the Mr Eye Opener mare Rare Eye Opener, Krash Course was a finalist in the restricted Grade 2 TQHA Sale Futurity last season. He has compiled a (5) 3-1-0 record and banked $24,159.

Runner-up Jess Real Fast rallied after an erratic start to hold on to the second fastest clocking of :19.672 seconds, also a 95 speed index. Also making his first start of 2018, the son of leading sire Heza Fast Dash races for owner Ramiro Flores and trainer Eduardo Morales. Noe Castaneda was riding.

Last season the sorrel gelding from the First Down Dash mare A Chick Called Linda broke his maiden for a $10,000-tag at Delta Downs and finished second in a LQHBA Sale Futurity trial from five starts. Nash Development LLC is the breeder.

Indiana invader Sone Cold Leader posted the most impressive trial win with a 2-˝ length effort in the second trial (Race 6) under jockey Rolando Pina. His time of :19705 seconds, a 94 speed index, stood as nights third fastest.

After winning two futurities in Indiana last year, the Patrick Richardson owned son of Brookstone Bay traveled South to finish a troubled fourth in a trial for the Evangeline Dows Futurity last November.

Conditioned by Joe Davis, Stone Cold Leader was third in the Old South Derby at Delta Downs last month. He has compiled a (12) 6-2-2 record and earned more than $205,600. Mark Michel bred the brown gelding in Indiana from the Leader Of The Class mare Sheza Classy Leader.
