This Wagons Okay Holds Sway In Ned Goutierrez Memorial

This Wagons Okay, under jockey Antonio Alberto, winning the Ned Goutierrez Memorial Stakes at Evangeline Downs.

OPELOUSAS, LA—OCTOBER 29, 2016— Evangeline Downs also honored employee Ned Goutierrez on Saturday night with a $15,000 Overnight stakes race. Goutierrez, in addition to working at the racetrack, was a longtime trainer and horseman that passed away earlier in 2016.

The race was won by an 11-1 longshot, This Wagons Okay, who covered the 220 yards in a time of 11.773 seconds, which equals a speed index of 97. This Wagons Okay is owned and trained by Javier Noel Contreras and was ridden to victory by Antonio Alberto.

Bred in Oklahoma by Michael Pohl, This Wagons Okay picked up $9,000 to boost his earnings mark to $161930. He is out of the Okey Dokey Dale mare This Candys Okay.

Multiple graded winner Scoopies Leaving You earned $3,600 for second. Kevin Broussard conditions the Coronas Leaving Your 5-year-old for owner Joel Galindo. Ridden by Donald Watson, Scoopies Leaving You was bred in Louisiana by Gerald Libersat from the Toast To Dash mare Ms Scoopies Toast. The 15-time winner has earned $278,880.

Aron Ruiz Gt Divalicious picked up $1,980 for third. Robert Touchet trains the Agouti 4-year-old out of The Village Witch, by Village Hero. Floriberto Maldonado had the riding call aboard the Brenda Touchet Louisiana-bred filly.

Hesablackmagic, The Golden Bowl, The Lizard King, Jls Dashn And Zoomn, Miss Mallard Struts and Corona And Jewels completd the field. Lethal Coronas was scratched.

Racing will resume at Evangeline Downs on Wednesday night with a nine-race program. Post time on Wednesday will be 5:35 pm Central Time.
