First Prize Perry Geldings Run 1-2 In Delta 550 Stakes

VINTON, LA—May 16, 2015—A pair of First Prize Perry geldings finished 1-2 in the Delta 550 Stakes at Delta Downs Saturday night. First Prize Copy, who led by as much 1½ lengths at one time during the race, held off a fast closing Sir Prize to win the $45,000 state-bred stakes by a neck. T Boy P finished one-length back in the show position.

Running off the inside rail under jockey David Alvarez, First Prize Copy completed the 550-yard course in :27.048 seconds to earn a 92 speed index. It was the fifth consecutive victory and first stakes win for 5-year-old gelding owned by Ana Alvidrez and trainer by Martin Trejo.

Bred by Teddy Mendoza and Patrick Wertz, from the First To Shine mare Shiney Copy, First Prize Copy run his record to (22) 10-4-2 and used the $27,000 Delta 550 paycheck to raise his earnings mark to $143,623.

Making only his second start of the year, graded stakes-placed Sir Prize bounced off a ninth place effort in the Louisiana Purchase Stakes on May 8, to earn $9,000 for owner Karen Brown. Vann Haywood conditions the First Prize Perry 4-year-old out of Susanna M Salter, by Bully Bullion. Bred by Steve and Kathleen Billings, Sir Prize has won seven of 18 career starts and earned nearly $110,000.

John Hamilton rode multiple graded stakes-placed T Boy P for owners Tommy Davis and Lanny Keith. Also trained by Keith, the son of King Corona is out of Got A Project, by Special Project. The $116,655 earner picked up $4,950 for tonight's effort. Gerald Patin is the breeder.

Rusty Bloom, Big Timer, Heza Bell Perry, Jess Leaving You, Hez Royal William, King Casady and Dashin Tee Pie completed the field.
