Carters Cartel Colt Tops Harrah's Futurity Schooling Races, Salazar Saddles Three of Top Four


More two-year-olds made their racing debuts in eight schooling races conducted on Friday at Louisiana Downs near Bossier City.

BOOSIER CITY, LA—FEBRUARY 6, 2015—Trainer Steven Salazar saddled three of the top four timed two-year-olds today, including the fastest, from 56 head that participated in schooling races at Louisiana Downs for Quarter Horses eligible for the Harrah's Entertainment Futurity trials next month.

Texas Landman, a $10,500 Heritage Place September Yearling purchased by Priscilla Rodriguez of Dallas, posted the top time on Friday following an impressive 2¼ length romp over the 220 yard course in Race 3. He ws clocked at :12.133 seconds.

The aforementioned Steven Salazar conditions the Carters Cartel colt out of the G1 Ruidoso Derby third place finisher My Lady Amber, by First Down Dash. Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for breeder Marcus Smith consigned the bay half-brother to stakes winner Miss Jess Perry ($66,541) and stakes-placed Kathryns Cartel ($32,278). This is the immediate family of Streakin Down SI 112 ($774,137) and Leaninintoit SI 102 ($243,887).

In the 8th race TG Corona Memory defeated Mayleen Pyc by a nose to get the second fastest clocking of :12.418 seconds. TG Horse Racing, LLC of Vinton, Louisiana owns the Jess A Chicks colt out of the Corona Cartel mare Memory Card.

Mayleen Pyc, a Pyc Paint Your Wagon filly who sold in the Heritage Place September Sale under the name Distracshun for $15,000, is trained by Salazar and owned by Leticia Contreras of Dallas. She is the third foal of winning Royal Shake Em mare with no starters to date. She posted the third fastest time of :12.427 on Friday.

Priscilla Rodriguez also owns Royal Swingin Jess, winner of the 4th race by three-quarters of a length, to get the fourth fastest time of :12.434. Ms. Rodriguez purchased the Swingin Jess colt for $7,500 from the LQHBA Yearling Sale last August. Bred by JLA Farms, he is out of a Sixes Royal half-sister to RG1 winner Blazin N Shaken ($635,335) and RG3 winner Mr Runaway Shaker SI 114 ($135,831), etc.

Also trained by Salazar, the gray colt is from the family of Remington Park Derby(G2) winner and multiple stakes sire Reckless Dash SI 103 ($315,229), etc.

Trials for the 2015 300 yard $75,000-added Harrah's Entertainment Futurity(G3) will be held Sunday, March 1. The 10 fastest qualifiers will return Saturday, March 12 to compete in the industry's first official graded Quarter Horse Futurity of 2015.
