Hoztile Takeover Takes The Fastest Time In The $102,452 Mardi Gras Derby Trials


Hoztile Takeover, ridden by Victor Manuel Urieta Jr, wins her trial heat clocking the fastest qualifying time in :19.854 seconds to the $102,452 Mardi Gras Derby.

BOSSIER CITY, LA––MARCH 6, 2024–The final four races of the day at Louisiana Days were slotted for the $102,452 Mardi Gras Derby trials. The three fastest times of the day resulted from the last of the four trials with Hoztile Takeover, Heza Rip and Hollywood Eagle respectively.

Jockey Victor Manuel Urieta Jr guided Hoztile Takeover to his neck victory over Heza Rip. The son of One Sweet Jess clocked a 98 speed index in :19.854 seconds for the fastest time to the 400-yard finals. Favored to win, the victory paid $4.80 on 2/5 odds.

Conditioned by Juan Diaz Jr, the trial victory is Hoztile Takeovers fourth career win and first out this season. The three-year-old gelding placed second in the LQHBA Sale Futurity [G1] and was a finalist in the Lee Berwick Futurity [G1] and Mardi Gras Futurity [G2] last year. The winnings from the trial increased his lifetime earnings to $225,169.

Bred by Roland Frederick and Triple Lynn Farms, Hoztile Takeover is out of Ms Pilot Id by Identity Theft. He is currently owned by Amanda St Amant and Luis Castellanos.

Runner up to Hoztile Takeover was Heza Rip, who clocked a 97 speed index under the guidance of jockey Rene Hernandez. The duo made a late push for the wire in :19.912 seconds.

Trainer Brenda Foster saddled Heza Rip for owner Jose Guzman. The two-time winning son of Rip Tide was a finalist in last year's LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity [G1] and has $68,800 in the bank.

Breeder Glen Fonteno sold Heza Rip, who is out of Rl Makenzie by Heza Fast Dash for $18,000 in the 2022 LQHBA Yearling Sale.
