Yo Morning Delite Gets Fifth Consecutive Win In $81,400 Rock Springs Wyoming Bred Derby


Yo Morning Delite, piloted by Shaunda Larsen, wins the $81,400 Rock Springs Wyoming Bred Derby by 1/2-length at Sweetwater Downs on Saturday.

ROCK SPRINGS, WY–SEPTEMBER 30, 2023–For his fifth consecutive trip to the winners circle and third stakes victory of the season, Yo Morning Delite gets a big win in the $81,400 Rock Springs Wyoming Bred Derby on Saturday at Sweetwater Downs. 

Jockey Shaunda Larsen piloted Yo Morning Delite to his 1/2-length victory over Makin Turtlemoves. The son of Brindis Por Cayenne clocked a 102 speed index in :17.411 seconds and the 350-yard victory paid $8.80 to win on 3/1 odds.

Conditioned by Tryston Matt, Yo Morning Delite has lit the board 11 of 15 starts with ten career wins and the $32,560 winner's share of the derby purse increased his earnings to $84,800. 

Yo Morning Delite has won seven of his nine starts in 2023 and three were in stakes competition, including the Wyoming Accredited Stallion Owners Derby earlier this month, and the Steel Etc Stakes in July. Bred and owned by Gerald Kaul, the three-year-old gelding is out of Rs Afternoon Delite by Southern Corona. 

Bumped at the start, Makin Turtlemoves kept his stride to the wire for second with Oscar Cervantes at the reins. The four-time winning son of Ja Jess Perfect has $40,387 in career earnings.

Trainer Jorge Garfias saddled Makin Turtlemoves for owner Wagonhammer Cattle, LLC. Bred by Eric Nelson, he is out of Crash The Gates by Maknmoves.

The Iron Chef, ridden by Tyson Lusk, made a clean trip to the wire for third. Trained by Dru Hall, the son of Flay has lit the board eight of 11 starts with five wins and $40,468 in the bank. 

The Iron Chef is bred by Chuck and Erica Jaure and his dam is PT Eyes On Me by Mr Eye Opener. The gray gelding is owned by Shannon Demler and Renegade Racing.

Completing the order of finish is Chasing Glock, Jess Pure Sass, Dirty Jan Boy, There He Goes, Kcross Cuatro, Vanellope and Sundancin Kid.
