Jes Winnin Cartel Qualifies Fastest For $145,062 Delta Downs Oaks

VINTON, LA–JUNE 21, 2023–The fastest qualifier for the Delta Downs Oaks was San Juana Montano’s Jes Winnin Cartel under jockey Arturo Alvarez.

The Noe R. Sanchez trainee won the second trial of the night with a time of 19.905 for 400 yards. That time equaled a speed index of 91.

Jes Winnin Cartel has now won four of 10 career starts. The Delta Downs Oaks is the third rich final she has qualified for during her career. She finished 10th in last year’s Evangeline Downs Derby before finishing sixth in the Mardi Gras Oaks earlier this year.

Bred in Louisiana by Mars Racing/Robicheaux Ranch Inc., Jes Winning Cartel is a 3-year-old brown filly by Five Bar Cartel, out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Jes Winnin.

Apollitical Blood led all sires with three finalists. Five Bar Cartel and Jess Louisiana Blue sired two each.

Delta Downs will continue its race week on Thursday with another eight-race program starting at 6:10 pm. The program includes trials for this year’s $144,635 Delta Downs Derby. Friday’s card will feature a special early post time of 5:10 pm to accommodate 12 trials for the $624,792 Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1). The race week wraps up on Saturday with nine races starting at 6:10 pm.
