San Lorenzo Dash Scores Third Consecutive Stakes At Delta Downs Meet

San Lorenzo Dash, under jockey Ubaldo Lunda, winning the $60,000 Vals Fortune/Teddy Abrams, Jr. Stakes on Wednesday night at Delta Downs.

VINTON, LA–JUNE 21, 2023–San Lorenzo Dash roared to her third consecutive stakes victory of the 2023 Delta Downs Quarter Horse Meet on Wednesday when she was a one-length winning the $60,000 Vals Fortune/Teddy Abrams, Jr. Stakes.

San Lorenzo Dash led gate-to-wire under jockey Ubaldo Luan to complete the 400 yards in :19.835 seconds, a 93 speed index into a 5 mph headwind. It was the ninth win in the 20 career starts for the daughter of leading sire Heza Fast Dash. The $36,000 winner's purse boosted her lifetime bankroll to $184,014.

Trainer Jesus M. Marquez conditions the 4-year-old filly from the One Famous Eagle mare San Lorenzo Eagle for owner-breeder Rogelio Marquez, Jr. She kicked off her 2023 campaign with a second in the Billy Montgomery Stakes at Louisiana Downs then moved to Delta to win the Delta Dash and the Mother's Day Stakes.

Runner-up Jrs Coronas Toast earned $12,000 for second. Trainer Paul Rigdon named jockey Juan Garcia, Jr. to ride the Coronas Leaving You 6-year-old for himself and co-owners Juan Luis Fernandez, Gyth Rigdon and Gerardo Gonzalez. Julien Stevens III bred the multiple graded-stakes-placed gelding from the Toast To Dash mare Egos Toast To Dash.  He has earned nearly $150,000.

Jjs Lace earned $6,600, under jockey Javier Garcia, for finishing third. Carlos Fierro saddled the 4-year-old Five Bar Cartel gelding for owner Olvera Ranch Distributor, LLC. Jackie and Jim Berard bred the gelding from Lethal N Lace by Dash To Chivito. Jjs Lace has earned $58,349.

One Sweet Rogue, One Sweet Boss and Jls Indy Rogue completed the field.

Delta Downs will continue its race week on Thursday with another eight-race program starting at 6:10 pm. The program includes trials for this year’s $144,635 Delta Downs Derby. Friday’s card will feature a special early post time of 5:10 pm to accommodate 12 trials for the $624,792 Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1). The race week wraps up on Saturday with nine races starting at 6:10 pm. CDT.
