VINTON, LA–JUNE 10, 2023–Delta Downs hosted the $35,000 Virgil Bond Stakes on Saturday night and the result was the same as it was last year as Sarahs Patriot prevailed in the 870-yard event for 3-year-olds and up.

The Gilbert Matthews owned and Phillip Calais, Jr. trained 5-year-old mare has now won five of 20 starts during her career and has finished in the top two nine consecutive times.

Breaking from post five in a field of seven, Sarahs Patriot was in contention throughout the race and had to do her best running late. She took the lead just a few yards before the finish line and held off Louie B Quick, who made a late surge to get into second, finishing just a neck behind the winner.
