VINTON, LA–MAY 3, 2023– Delta Downs hosted the first eight trials for this year’s $327,272 Louisiana Lassie Futurity (RG2) on Wednesday night.

The five fastest Louisiana-bred fillies from Wednesday’s action will join the top five from Thursday’s eight trials to make it into the final of the race, which will take place on Friday, May 26.

The fastest qualifier from Wednesday night was Rogelio Marquez, Jr.’s San Lorenzo Blood with jockey Rolando Cabrera in the saddle for trainer Jesus Marquez. The brown filly won the second trial of the night and covered 330 yards over a fast track in a time of 16.595 seconds. The time equaled a speed index of 96.

Bred in Louisiana by Slash Z Quarter Horses, San Lorenzo Blood is a 2-year-old filly by Apollitical Blood, out of the Valiant Hero mare Ms Valiant Perry. She was purchased for $70,000 at the 2022 Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association Yearling Sale.

Guerra Racing's Mp Adored broke her maiden in the sixth trial Wednesday to record the second fastest clocking of :16.775 seconds, a 91 speed index. Jockey Ali Rivera rode the daughter of All American Futurity(G1) winner Mr Piloto to a 2-3/4 length win for trainer Gilberto Gonzalez.

Bred by Grant Farms, LLC, from the Bigtime Favorite mare Adored Bigtime, Mp Adored has compiled a (3) 1-1-1 record and banked $9,070.

Diamond Blood, a $20,000 LQHBA Sale repurchase, easily won the closing trial under jockey Eddie Sanchez to secure the third fastest clocking of :17.065 seconds. Trainer Jose Luis Sanchez, III sent out the Apollitical Blood filly for her first win in her career debut for owner Cruz E. Nava.

Crown Horse Racing LLC bred the gray filly from the multiple RG1-placed Shesa Diamond Diva by Struttin To Beduino. Diamond Blood took home $6,000 of the $10,000 Lassie Futurity trial purse for her effort.
