San Lorenzo Dash Takes The Delta Dash On Opening Night At Delta Downs

San Lorenzo Dash (#1) defeating Mp Dont Look in the $30,000 Delta Dash Stakes opening night of the 2023 Quarter Horse meet at Delta Downs.

VINTON, LA–APRIL 28, 2023–Delta Downs kicked off its 2023 American Quarter Horse season on Friday night with a nine-race program featuring two stakes races and four qualifying trials.

The $40,000 Open Me a Corona Stakes was won by Rf Fast Dash N Jess (see related story) while San Lorenzo Dash took the $20,000 Delta Dash.

The win by San Lorenzo Dash in the Delta Dash Stakes gave jockey Ubaldo Luna a riding double on the program as he guided the Jesus Marquez trainee to a ½ length win over Mp Dont Look while Swags finished another length back in third.

The winner covered 250 yards, after breaking from the rail, in a time of 12.969 seconds. That time equaled a speed index of 97.

Owned by Rogelio Marquez, Jr., San Lorenzo Dash has now won seven of 18 career starts. Her $12,000 paycheck on Friday boosted her career bankroll to $121,014.

Bred in Louisiana by her owner, San Lorenzo Dash is a 4-year-old sorrel mare by Heza Fast Dash, out of the One Famous Eagle mare San Lorenzo Eagle.

Runner-up Mp Dont Look put in a solid effort under jockey Guadalupe Lucio, Jr., to earn $6,000 for second. Fernando Valdez trains the son of multiple stakes sire Mr Piloto for owner Rosendo Valdez. Grant Farms LLC bred the stakes-placed gelding from the Frist To Shine mare McM Dont Look Back in Louisiana.  He has earned $50,2909 with four wins in nine career starts.

Swags finished one-length back to pick up $2,200 for third. Trainer Adrian Huitron named jockey Jorge Garcia to ride the Oklahoma-bred don of champion Kiss My Hocks for owner Luciano Gutierrez, IV. Haskell Evans bred the graded-placed colt from the Separatist mare Check The Account.  Second in Grade 2 Firecracker Derby last season, Swags has banked $84,481.

Lett It Happen, Red Face Rogue, Mp Dancing Star, Toast To Blue, Lady Genevieve, Cwfasttrack and Jeg Facination completed the field.
