Wild Blue Candy Steps Up, Gets Third Consecutive Win

BOSSIER CITY, LA–MARCH 31, 2023–Wild Blue Candy easily stepped into allowance company Friday when he won the $14,000 feature allowance, for 3-year-olds and up, Friday afternoon at Louisiana Downs.

Under jockey Rolando Cabrera, Wild Blue Candy sped away from the gate then held to a half-length win as the post time favorite. The son of multiple stakes sire Jess Louisiana Blue completed the 440 yards in :22.057 seconds, a 96 speed index into a 30 mph crosswind.

Trainer Xavier Scott saddled the 5-year-old Louisiana-bred to his third consecutive win, sixth lifetime, for owner Jose Barron. Wild Blue Candy kicked off the year with a win in a starter optional claiming on March 1st. He closed out a successful season in 2022 wining a starter optional claiming race at Evangeline Downs December 2.

Riley Blanchett bred Wild Blue Candy from the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Sail On Candy. He has compiled a (20) 6-2-1 record and banked $46,423 after pocketing today's winner's purse valued at $8,400.

Runner-up Strut For Petes Sake earning $2,800 for second. Trainer Patrick Clemons named jockey Arturo Alvarez to ride the son of multiple stakes sire Strutin To Beduino for owner Cuadra Santa Cruz LLC. Flying K Ranch bred the staked-placed earner of $77,150 from the Hail Corona mare Kelforpete.

Gt Is Earls Legacy finished a nose back, under jockey Mario Trujillo, to earn $1,540 for third. Mario A. Trujillo, Jr. trains the Sir Runaway Dash gelding for owner Robert J. Touchet, II. Brenda Touchet bred the gray gelding from the Toast To Dash mare Gt Toasted Date.

Blue Storm Comin and Rl Prize Doll completed the field. Spicey One was scratched.
