Ed O Snares Fastest Time For The Louisiana Laddie Futurity At Delta Downs


Ed O, under jockey Noe Villatoro, gets the fastest qualifying time over fellow qualifier Jrs Sir Pop A Top in Saturday's $369,405 Louisiana Laddie Futurity (RG2) trials at Delta Downs.

VINTON, LA—APRIL 27, 2019—Delta Downs closed out its second week of its 2019 American Quarter Horse season on Saturday with an expanded 17-race program. The entire card was made up of qualifying trials for this year’s $369,405 Louisiana Laddie Futurity (RG2).

The fastest qualifier of the night came in the eighth trial as Edwardo Lopez’s Ed O stopped the timer in :16.666 seconds for 330 yards while racing on fast track. That clocking equaled a speed index of 97. Ed O was ridden to victory by Noe Villatoro and is trained by Jose U. Lopez.

The win by Ed O came in his career debut and he earned $7,200 for the effort. Each trial on the program Saturday featured a purse of $12,000. Should Ed O be victorious in the final, he would take home a tidy sum of $184,702.

Bred in Louisiana by Anthony Gaspard/A. Landry Jr., Ed O is a 2-year-old gelding by last year's Louisiana Million Futurity(RG1) sire Mr Piloto, out of the Heza Fast Dash mare Shezadashinatcha. The sorrel gelding was purchased for $4,700 at the Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association Yearling Sale in 2018.

Jess Redwhiteandblue broke his maiden in his second career start winning trial 6 by a head over Candy Coated Rogue to get the second fastest time of :16.757 seconds, a 94 speed index. Everardo Rodriguez had the riding call aboard the son of multiple stakes sire Jess Louisiana Blue for owner Joseph Landreneau and trainer Lanny Keith.

Jim and Natalie Montgomery bred the $45,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale graduate from the Azoom mare Ha Chi Mama.

Mary Thompson's Train Of Diamonds broke her maiden in trial 4 under jockey Francisco Calderon to get the third fastest clocking of :16.775 seconds, also a 94 speed index.

Larry Kopycinski conditions the $13,500 LQHBA Yearling Sale graduate by multiple stakes sire Freighttrain B from the FDD Dynasty mare Diamonds Are Forever B. Bred by Margie Loup, the bay colt has earned $8,400 in two starts.

First crop sire Heza Fast Rogue sired fourth fastest qualifier, the aforementioned Candy Coated Rogue. Ned Goutierrez III saddled the gelding for owner Jerry Deville, Jr. The bay gelding, under jockey Antonio Alberto, completed the 330 yards in :16.779 seconds, also a 94 speed index. Brock Broussard bred Candy Coated Rogue from the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare All About The Candy.

Jess Louisiana Blue was the only sire getting multiple qualifiers, included 8th fastest Blueacrossyourmind.
