VINTON, LA—APRIL 28, 2018— Delta Downs conducted a special 15-race program on Saturday night to accommodate qualifying trials for this year’s Louisiana-bred Laddie Futurity (RG2). This year’s Laddie will feature a purse of $359,715.

The 10 fastest times from the trials earned a spot in the rich final.

For the second night in a row the fastest qualifier during trial competition came out of the fourth heat on the program. On Friday Rogue One had the quickest clocking during 13 trials for the Louisiana-bred Lassie Futurity, and on Saturday night it was Laura Estrella’s Acoronas Toast who turned the trick in the same race by stopping the clock in :16.697 seconds for 330 yards on a fast track.

Under jockey Eddie Sanchez, Acoronas Toast broke sharply in a field of 10 while running from the inside post position. He quickly took command before holding on to win by just a nose over a fast-charging Runaway Roulette.

The Saul Ramirez, Jr. trainee kept his record perfect at two-for-two with the victory and now heads to the rich final on Saturday, May 19.

Bred in Louisiana by Gerald Paul Vidrine, Acoronas Toast is a 2-year-old chestnut gelding by Coronas Leaving You, out of the Toast To Dash mare Toast of Magic. He was purchased for $11,000 at the Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association Yearling Sale last August and was supplemented to the Laddie trials for $6,000.

Sent to the starting gate at odds of 9-5, Acoronas Toast paid $5.80 to win, $3.80 to place and $3 to show.

Runaway Roulette, a colt by multiple stakes sire Sir Runaway Dash, who finished a nose off the fastest qualifier recorded the second fastest time of :16.698 seconds.

Jorge Linares rode the sorrel colt for owner Lorenzo Duran and trainer Rosendo Valdez, Jr. Duran paid $18,000 at the LQHBA Yearling Sale for the colt out of Lovers Dash by Sir Cashanova. Flying K Ranch LLC is the breeder.

Adored Pilot posted a half-length in the 13th trial for trainer Lanny Keith and owner Jorge Martinez. Ridden by Everardo Rodriguez, the $8,000 LQHBA Yearling graduate by All American Futurity(G1) winner Mr Piloto is bred by Grant Farms, LLC. Out of the Bigtime Favorite mare Adored Bigtime, Adored Pilot posted the third fastest clocking of :16.751 seconds.

For the second night in a row trainer Saul Ramirez, Jr. sent out four winners on a single program. In addition to visiting the winner’s circle with Acoronas Toast, Ramirez also enjoyed success with Ciders Runaway in the second race, Heza Fast Eagle in the sixth, and Rl First Dash in the ninth. Jockey Eddie Sanchez rode each of Ramirez’s winners.

Heza Fast Dash was the only sire getting multiple qualifiers with 5th fastest Fastcopata and 9th fastest Mr Range Rover. First-crop sires Five Bar Cartel and Point Break Dash each sired a finalist.

Grant Farms LLC bred three qualifiers, the aforementioned Adored Pilot and Fastcopata and 6th fastest Mr Empresario.
