Fastest Qualifier Sizzlin Stewart Dominates Old South Futurity Final

VINTON, LA—APRIL 30, 2016—Making just his second career start, jockey Gilbert Ortiz used Sizzlin Stewart's quick speed to defeat Tres Seis Sign by three-quarters of a length in the $88,935 Old South Futurity at Delta Downs Saturday night.

Saddling his third winner on Saturday's card, trainer Kenneth Roberts, Sr. conditions the gelded son of first crop sire Sizzlin Cartel for owner P and D Racing. With a 2-for-2 record, Sizzlin Stewart earned $44,468 to bring his bankroll to $48,668. The colt covered the 330 yards in :17.007 seconds over the sealed racetrack rated good.

Stewart Horses Ltd. bred Sizzlin Stewart in Texas from the Rare Form mare Stone Ginger. He entered the race as the fastest qualifier following an impressive three-quarter length win in his career debut April 23.

Losing for the second straight time to Sizzlin Stewart, Tres Seis Sign races for owner/breeder Armando Moya and trainer Erasmo Hernandez. The son of leading sire Tres Seis earned $15,119 for his second place effort. The Texas homebred is from the Reeds Dash mare Sign Anna First. Jose Rodriguez had the riding assignment.

Trainer John Stinebaugh saddled Champagne Prospect to a third place effort, one-length back in the show position. It was the first loss for the Prospect To The Top filly that entered the race off wins in both the Old South Futurity trials and the Oklahoma Futurity trials.

Bowen Arrow Farms purchased the filly in the Heritage Place September Yearling Sale for $5,700. Cynthia Zoch bred Champagne Prospect in Texas from the Mr Jess Perry mare Jessachampagnewoman. The $8,894 show purse brings the fillies earnings total to nearly $19,000. Raul Ramirez, Jr. was up.

Sent to the gate as the 3-2 wagering favorite, Sizzlin Stewart returned $5 to win, $3.40 to place and $2.60 to show. Tres Seis Sign was worth $4.40 to place and $2.80 to show. Champagne Prospect paid $3 to show.

Cartelita, Strawflyin Tac, Mr Dash Jess, Bed O Quicker, Volcomtini and Bettin On A Dynasty completed the field. Bonita Capi was scratched.

Delta Downs will begin its fifth week of American Quarter Horse racing on Wednesday night with another 10-race program set to get underway at 6:15 pm (CDT).
