Juvenile Schooling Races Kickoff Tuesday at Louisiana Downs


Louisiana Downs will host two days of schooling races for 2-year-olds who remain eligible for Louisiana Futurity(G3) and Mardi Gras Futurity(RG2).

BOSSIER CITY, LA–FEBRUARY 6, 2023–Highly anticipated schooling races for the new crop of 2-year-olds will get underway Tuesday and Wednesday when Louisiana Downs hosts 220 yard races for juveniles who remain eligible for the Louisiana Futurity(G3) and Mardi Gras Futurity(RG2).

Tuesday, February 7 the Bossier City racetrack will host eight non-wagering 220 yard schooling races for open bred Quarter Horse 2-year-olds who remain eligible for the Grade 3 $350,000 estimated Louisiana Downs Futurity.

Mr Prize B, a $45,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate will make his career debut in Race 6.  Jockey Modesto Pena will ride the son of world champion sire Freighttrain B from post 7 for owner Salazar Stables LLC.

Wendy Garcia conditions the half-brother to TQHA 550 Stakes [RG3] finalist Rivers Runs Fast. The second dam is the Heritage Place Futurity(G1) winner Fast First Prize, a sister to leading sire Heza Fast Dash. This is the family of many graded stakes winners including Ruidoso Futurity(G1) winner Apollitical Chad.

The Louisiana Futuirty(G3) trials are set March 2 and the 300 yard final will be contested on Saturday, March 25.

Wednesday, February 8 the racetrack will feature 16 non-wagering 220 yard schooling races for Louisiana bred Quarter Horse 2-year-olds who remain eligible for the restricted Grade 2 $400,000 estimated Mardi Gras Futurity.

The opening trial will is headed by $47,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale graduate Tru Blood. Trainer Joe Manucy. named jockey Gilbert Ortiz to ride the son of leading sire Apollitical Blood for owner Joel Lopez.

The sorrel colt out of Shesa La Lassie by Heza Fast Dash is a half-brother to RG3 finalist Supa Five Bar. This is the family of champion and leading Louisiana sire Jess Louisiana Blue.

The Mardi Gras Futuirty(RG2) trials are set March 3 and 4 and the 300 yard final will be contested on Saturday, March 25.

The schooling race will not be live but will be posted on Louisiana Downs YouTube channel.
