Evangeline Downs Futurity Headlines Friday Stakes Tripleheader at the Louisiana Track


Fastest qualifier Daddy Caliente is the morning-line favorite in Friday's 400-yard, $305,960 Evangeline Downs Futurity (G2) at Evangeline Downs.

OPELOUSAS, LA–DECEMBER 13, 2022–Ten 2-year-olds, led by fastest qualifier and morning-line favorite Daddy Caliente, are entered back in Friday's 400-yard, $305,960 Evangeline Downs Futurity (G2) at Evangeline Downs.

A gray son of Big Daddy Cartel trained by Brian Stroud for owner Mi Cielo Ranch, Daddy Caliente is coming off of a clear 2 1/2-length victory in the fourth of 11 trials on November 18. The colt has won two of six races and has earned $145,932, and his record includes a second-place finish, one length behind winner One Perfect Lady, in the October 1, $426,000 Dash For Cash Futurity (G2) at Lone Star Park.

Daddy Caliente drew post 10 and will be ridden by Claudio P. Aguilar. His nine opponents include RGs Gold Wagon, a sorrel son of Prized Wagon owned by Mauricio Garza and trained by Janessa Muniz. The second-fastest qualifier, the gelding has banked $74,870 from 10 outs in three states, and he ran fourth in the Dash For Cash Futurity.

RGs Gold Wagon drew post 3 and will be ridden by Edgar Mata.

Two other stakes are scheduled for Friday at Evangeline Downs. Fastest qualifier B Leaving heads a field of 10 sophomores entered back in the 400-yard, $124,290 Evangeline Downs Derby.

A Valiant Hero gelding owned by Alfredo Garza Rodriguez and one of three finalists from the barn of trainer Zackary Stinebaugh, B Leaving is coming off of a 1 1/4-length win in the last of five trials on November 19. He's won two stakes this year, including the August 27, $59,000 Adequan Ruidoso Derby Challenge at Ruidoso Downs, and he ran second, one length behind winner Nothin Like You, in the October 22, $158,000 Adequan Derby Challenge Championship (G3) at Horseshoe Indianapolis.

B Leaving drew post 8 and will be ridden by Ali Rivera.

Friday's 350-yard, $25,000 Sam's Town Stakes has drawn a field of 10, led by Vic3tory LLC's Other World. A 4-year-old son of champion Foose trained by Leonel Hernandez, the gelding is dropping in class off of off-the-board finishes in the Grade 1 Robert L. Boniface Los Alamitos Invitational Championship at Los Alamitos and Grade 1 Refrigerator Invitational Championship at Lone Star Park.

Other World drew post 8 and will be ridden by Eleazar Hernandez.
