San Lorenzo Jet, Zoominseperately Lead Field for $331,880 Laddie Futurity at Delta Downs


Fastest qualifier San Lorenzo Jet will head a field of 10 state-breds in the restricted Grade 2 $331,880 Laddie Futurity Saturday at Delta Downs.

VINTON, LA – MAY 25, 2022 – The feature race of the Saturday night card at Delta Downs, the $331,880 Laddie Futurity, appears to be wide open as 10 qualifiers return to the 330-yard final.

Trials for the Laddie were held on May 6 and May 7, with eight trials on each night. For some of the qualifiers, including fastest qualifier San Lorenzo Jet, the trial was also their career debut.

San Lorenzo Jet won the fifth trial of the first night and broke his maiden in his first out. The Jet Black Patriot colt put an early lead on the field and was ahead by three lengths at one point in the effort. He and jockey David Alvarez won by a length at the wire and set the fastest overall time of :16.781. Alvarez will return for the ride in Saturday’s final.

San Lorenzo Jet is trained by Jesus Marquez for owner Rogelio Marquez, Jr. He was bred by Tim & Jennie Rogers of Rogers Farm, out of the stakes placed mare Miss Delta Duck, by Fly Jess Fly. He will break from the outside post in the final.

The fastest qualifier from the second night, Zoominseperately, was the second fastest overall qualifier in 16.870. Roberto Madrigal trains for owner Maria Garza; he was bred by Teddy Berry out of the Separatist mare Ms Proverbial.

Zoominseperately is undefeated in two career starts, ridden both times by Victor Urieta, Jr., who returns to ride the gelding in the final. The son of Zoomin for Bux broke his maiden in his debut as the winner of his Mardi Gras Futurity trial at Louisiana Downs.

His trial for the Laddie produced two more of the ten fastest qualifiers who all return for the final: Konnan Cartel and Jj Jess a Shadow.

Konnan Cartel, a gelded son of Five Bar Cartel, suffered his first defeat in three starts in the final as the runner-up to Zoominseperately; his time of 17.007 was the fifth fastest overall. He is trained by Kenneth Roberts, Sr. and owned by Dania Castellanos. Luis Armando Castellanos bred Konnan Cartel out of Jet Black Chiraq, by Jet Black Patriot.

Third place finisher Jj Jess a Shadow was the tenth fastest qualifier in 17.104 and will make his fourth career start for trainer Jose Carrizales with Ricardo Hernandez, Jr. aboard. The colt is a homebred for J&J Stables, LLC, by Jess an Idea and out of Filly Er Up, by Walk Thru Fire.

The third fastest qualifier, Tha Duke, won his trial on the first night in 16.909. He will be in search of his third consecutive win under jockey Arturo Alvarez for trainer Raul Rodriguez. Ashton Elder and Miguel Romero, Jr. bred and own the Rc Me Leaving You gelding out of Precious Perry Girl, by Jess Louisiana Blue.

The $331,880 Laddie Futurity is Race 9 on Saturday, May 28. Post time is 9:35 pm C.T. The complete lineup, in post position order, with jockeys and morning line odds:
