Ten Sophomores Entered Back in $200,510 Firecracker Derby


Champion Trump My Record will head a full field in Saturday’s 400-yard, $200,510 Firecracker Derby (G3) at Delta Downs.

VINTON, LA-—AUGUST 10, 2020—Ten 3-year-olds, topped by 2019 champion 2-year-old gelding Trump My Record, are entered in Saturday’s 400-yard, $200,510 Firecracker Derby (G3) at Delta Downs.

The fastest qualifier, Trump My Record is trained by Jose Luis Sanchez III for owner Gilbert Pacheco III. The gelded son of Apollitical Blood made his local debut with a 1 3/4-length victory in the last of three Firecracker Derby trials on July 24.

Trump My Record has won 10 of 12 starts, including three graded stakes, and he has earned $801,137. The gelding drew post 4 and will be ridden by Eddie Sanchez.

Other contenders include Mr Tereso, a homebred son of the FDD Dynasty stallion Man Who Wouldbe King trained by Fernando Lopez for owner Jose U. Oviedo. Mr Tereso has won his last three outs, including the 350-yard, $98,000 Old South Derby at Delta Downs on July 3.

Mr Tereso drew post 3 and will be ridden by Rolando Cabrera.
