Louisiana QHBA Sale Futurity Trials Draw 105 Juveniles

NEW ORLEANS, LA—AUGUST 15, 2019—Graded stakes winners Runaway Second Down and Tdz Jet Black Down are among the 105 state-bred 2-year-olds entered in Saturday’s 350-yard $428,475 Louisiana QHBA Sale Futurity (RG1) trials at Fair Grounds Racecourse.
Runaway Second Down is a gray son of Sir Runaway Dash trained by Robi Meche for owners Eulalio Argote and Victor Alvarado. An $80,000 purchase at last year’s Louisiana QHBA Yearling Sale, the gelding has earned $358,666 from four starts, and his two wins include a a head victory in the 350-yard, $700,293 Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1) at Delta Downs on July 6.
Runaway Second Down drew post 2 and will be ridden by Antonio Alberto in the ninth of 11 trials.
Tdz Jet Black Down races for Tony Doughtie from the barn of trainer Kenneth Roberts Sr. The homebred Jet Black Patriot gelding has won his last three outs, including the 330-yard, $369,405 Louisiana Breeders’ Laddie Futurity (RG2) at Delta Downs in May.
Tdz Jet Black Down drew post 9 and will be ridden by John Hamilton in the fifth heat.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the September 7, $400,000-added LQHBA Sale Futurity final.
