VINTON, LA—JUNE 11, 2019—Mpshinning and TDZ Louisiana Toast are among the 49 Louisiana-bred sophomores entered in Friday’s 400-yard Delta Downs Derby (RG3) trials at Delta Downs.

A Mr Piloto colt trained by Heath Taylor for owner Larry J. Boudreaux, Mpshinning will be making his season debut in the third of five trials. Mpshinning has earned $591,654 from eight starts -- all in Louisiana -- and he ended his 2-year-old campaign with a dominating 1 1/2-length victory in the state’s richest horse race, the 400-yard, $1-million LQHBA Million Futurity (RG1) at Evangeline Downs.

Mpshinning drew post 5 and will be ridden by Luis Vivanco.

TDZ Louisiana Toast races for Juan F. Martinez from the barn of trainer Josue Ponce. A gelded son of champion Jess Louisiana Blue, TDZ Louisiana Toast will be making his first start since March 16, when he scored a clear 2 3/4-length win in the 400-yard, $120,782 Mardi Gras Derby (R) for state-bred 3-year-olds at Louisiana Toast.

TDZ Louisiana Toast drew post 9 and will be ridden by Manuel Gutierrez in the fourth heat.

Joseph Landreneau’s Soft On The Coronas, a stakes winner during the current Delta meet, drew post 5 and will be ridden by Everardo Rodriguez for trainer Lanny Keith. The sorrel Coronas Leaving You gelding was a prompt 2-1 favorite in the 400-yard, $50,000 Vinton Stakes (R) on May 18.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the July 6, $150,000-added Delta Downs Derby final.
