VINTON, LA—JUNE 13, 2017—Watergirl B, the upset winner of last year’s Lee Berwick Memorial Futurity (RG1), will make her season debut in Friday’s 400-yard Delta Downs Derby (RG3) trials at Delta Downs.

A sorrel daughter of Game Patriot trained by John Stinebaugh for owner Vanessa Bartoo of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, Watergirl B has earned $362,397 from six starts, and her resume includes a half-length win at odds of 42-1 in the $690,000 Lee Berwick Memorial Futurity, the Delta meet’s richest race. The filly drew post 9 and will be ridden by Gilbert Ortiz in the first of three trials.

Hez Kwik, a graded stakes winning son of Heza Fast Dash racing for Richard Mendoza, ended his juvenile campaign with a three-race win streak that included a neck victory in the 350-yard, $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile Stakes (RG2) at Fair Grounds Racecourse in New Orleans. The gray gelding is coming off of a fourth-place finish, 1 3/4 lengths behind winner Zooboo, in the 400-yard, $50,000 Vinton Stakes (R) on May 20.

Hez Kwik will be ridden by Ricardo Hernandez Jr. from the rail post in the second heat.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the July 8, $150,000-added Delta Downs Derby final.
