Old South Derby Headlines Delta Friday Stakes Doubleheader

VINTON, LA—MAY 9, 2017—Jmf Dashing, a sorrel son of champion Tempting Dash and the fastest qualifier, is one of 10 sophomores entered back in Friday’s 350-yard, $62,715 Old South Derby at Delta Downs.

Trained by Josue Ponce for Javier Marquez’s J and M Racing and Farm of Monahans, Texas, Jmf Dashing made his season debut with a head victory in the last of four trials on April 21. The gelding has banked $14,100 from four official starts in Texas and Louisiana.

Jmf Dashing drew post 5 and will be ridden by Raul Ramirez Jr. His nine opponents include Sizzlin Stewart, a homebred grey Sizzlin Cartel gelding and the winner of last year’s 330-yard, $89,000 Old South Futurity. The eighth-fastest qualifier, Sizzlin Stewart will be ridden by Noe Castaneda from post 8 for owners Pat Crabtree and Don Stewart and trainer Kenneth Roberts Sr.

Delta 550 Stakes

Undefeated in two outs this season, Heza Bell Perry drew the rail post for Saturday’s $25,000 Delta 550 Stakes.

Heza Bell Perry is coming off of a three-quarter length victory in the 550-yard, $20,000 Harris County Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park on March 31. The 6-year-old Heza Fast Dash gelding will be ridden by Alfonso Lujan for owner and trainer Javier N. Contreras.

Ww Showtime will be making his season debut from post 3 and will be attempting to defend his Delta 550 title. A 5-year-old First Prize Perry stallion trained by Eduardo L. Morales for owner Victoria Galindo, Ww Showtime scored a 1 3/4-length victory in this race last year.
