Trials Set For $317,500 Evangeline Downs Futurity,107 Horses Entered Across 12 Trial Races

Grade 2 Dash For Cash Futurity winner Eye N Capo will be among the 107 hopefuls starting in 12 trials races for the $317,500 Evangeline Downs Futurity on Friday.

OPELOUSAS, LA—NOVEMBER 20, 2016—Entries were taken at Evangeline Downs for the $317,500 Evangeline Downs Futurity for 2-year-olds on Thursday. There were 107 horses entered to run in 12 trials to be held of Friday, November 25. The 10 fastest qualifiers from the trials will return to run in the Final, which will be held on the closing night of the season, Saturday, December 17.

There are several horses entered in the trials that have already won Futurity races at other racetracks. The headline horse of the night might just be in the first trial, Eye N Capo, who won the Grade 2 $384,615 Dash For Cash Futurity at Lone Star Park in October, is the 9-5 morning line favorite. The Adrian Huitron-trained Capo de Capi gelding is a perfect 2-for-2 in his brief career.

There are three horses entered in the trials which won Futurity Finals at Evangeline Downs’ sister racetrack, Delta Downs. Sizzlin Stewart, a Kenneth Roberts, Sr. trainee, won the $88,935 Old South Futurity is the 5-2 morning line favorite in the fourth trial. He is by first crop sire Sizzlin Cartel.

The sixth trial features the winner of the Grade 2 $271,950 Firecracker Futurity, Platinum FDD, who is the 9-5 morning line choice. The 5-2 morning line favorite, by all-time leading sire First Down Dash, race in the ninth trial of the evening is the undefeated son of first crop sire Tee Cos, Mr Tee Cos. The Trey Ellis trainee is 4-for-4 in his career, which includes a victory in the $51,495 Alabama Futurity.

The program on the final night of the Evangeline Downs season will feature, in addition to the Evangeline Downs Futurity Final, the $50,000-added Evangeline Downs Derby Final. The trials for the Derby are scheduled to be run on Saturday, November 26.
