Louisiana-Breds in Spotlight in Fair Grounds Saturday Stakes Tripleheader

NEW ORLEANS, LA—AUGUST 16, 2016—The first Saturday program of Fair Grounds’ short summer meet will feature three stakes, topped by a pair of stakes restricted to Louisiana-bred sprinters.

Saturday’s $50,000 Treme Stakes (RG3), a 350-yard race for state-bred sophomores, has drawn a field of seven, topped by Bobby D. Cox’s Jessa Louisiana Zoom. A graded stakes winning daughter of champion Jess Louisiana Blue trained by Kenneth Roberts Sr., the filly is coming off of a second-place finish in the 400-yard, $244,000 Delta Downs Derby (RG2) on July 9.

Jessa Louisiana Zoom has won five of nine outs and has earned $575,107. The filly drew post 7 and will be ridden by Donald Watson.

The complete lineup for the Treme, in post position order including jockey assignments--

Also on Saturday, a field of eight Louisiana-bred distaffers will go postward in the 350-yard, $50,000 Audubon Stakes (R).

Trainer Kenneth Roberts Sr. will send out Telarosa for the 3-year-old filly’s first start against older runners. A sorrel daughter of Jet Black Patriot campaigned by Douglas O. Traylor, Telarosa was a stakes winner during the recently concluded Delta Downs meet, and her two wins in three outs over this track include a nose victory as the 8-5 favorite in last year’s 350-yard, $204,000 Louisiana QHBA Sale Futurity (RG1).

Telarosa drew post 8 and will be ridden by Lucas Constantin.

Saturday’s stakes tripleheader at Fair Grounds will conclude with the 250-yard, $30,000 Gentilly Dash Stakes. The likely favorite and defending champion, Joel Galindo’s Scoopies Leaving You, drew post 5 and will be ridden by Donald Watson for trainer Kevin Broussard. The 5-year-old Coronas Leaving You stallion is coming off of a nose victory in the 250-yard, $50,000 Flying Breed Stakes (R) at Delta Downs on July 9.
