Cartels Fortune to Take on Males in Delta’s Develop A Plan Stakes

VINTON, LA—MAY 27, 2015—Cartels Fortune, a 4-year-old Carters Cartel mare racing for Rodney Verret, is one of seven aged sprinters entered in Saturday’s 350-yard, $25,000 Develop A Plan Stakes (G3) at Delta Downs.
Trained by Kenneth Roberts Sr., Cartels Fortune is coming off of a neck victory as the odds-on favorite in the 400-yard, $28,000 Merial Sam Houston Distaff Challenge Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park on May 2. The mare boasts a five-race win streak that includes a nose win in the $126,000 Evangeline Downs Derby on December 20.
Cartels Fortune drew the rail post and will be ridden by Patrick Watson in the Develop A Plan. The mare’s six opponents include Heza Fast Rogue, a 4-year-old Heza Fast Dash stallion who is coming off of a second-place finish to Open Me A Corona in the April 22, $50,000 John Alleman Stakes (RG3) for his owners, Brock Broussard and Jacque Bourque.
Kevin Broussard trains Heza Fast Rogue, who drew post 3 and will be ridden by Donald Watson.
