Ten Trials, Early Post Set Thursday for $156,500 Louisiana Maiden Classic Trials at Louisiana Downs


C The Power will look for his second consecutive win on Thursday in the $156,500 Louisiana Maiden Classic trials at Louisiana Downs.

BOSSIER CITY, LA–FEBRUARY 26, 2024–A special early post has been set Thursday (Feb 29) at Louisiana Downs when 83 3-year-old and up hopefuls will contest 10 trial races for the $156,500 Louisiana Downs Maiden Classic (not black type).

First post is 12:05 p.m. (CST).

The 10 fastest qualifiers, that were maidens at time of nomination, will return to the Bossier City racetrack on Saturday, March 23 to vie for the winner's share of the purse going a distance of 350 yards.   

Two recent winners C The Power and Kalifornia Monarch will face off in Race 7.

C The Power exploded in his 3-year-old debut February 8 to win a $13,500 Maiden 350 yard race by half-a-length for owner Juan Montoya and trainer Kelly Avant. The son of multiple stakes sire Power Jam (TB) completed the distance in :18.016 seconds, equaling a career high 90 speed index.

C The Power's second dam is Rainbow Futurity(G1) winner Ms First Prize Rose by Corona Cartel. J.J. Garcia has the riding call from Post 6.  C The Power has compiled a (5) 1-0-1 record and earned $11,345.

Kalifornia Monarch, a $145,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate in 2018, will also look to string together his second consecutive victory in Race 7 after breaking his maiden in an $8,500 maiden 300 yard race at LAD February 7.

Trainer Guillermo Martinez will saddled the Favorite Cartel half-brother to champion and All American Futurity winner Imperial Eagle for owner Triple Enterprises, Inc. Jasiel Aquino has the riding call from Post 4. The lightly raced 7-year-old has earned $5,340 in five starts.

Trainer Heath Taylor will send out recent winner Belgravia in Race 9 for owner Rancho El 48 LLC. The Apollitical Blood filly broke her maiden January 24 in a $13,500 300 yard event, her last start. Juan Garci, Jr. will ride the $15,739 earner from post 4.
