One Fine V, Pappacito Headline Friday's Firecracker Derby Trials

VINTON, LA–JUNE 12, 2023–Graded stakes winner One Fine V and stakes winner Pappacito are among the 14 sophomores entered in Friday's 400-yard Firecracker Derby (G3) trials at Delta Downs.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $50,000-added final on July 7.

One Fine V returns to Louisiana after a third-place in a May 14 Heritage Place Derby (G2) at Remington Park in Oklahoma City. However, the sorrel daughter of One Famous Eagle has won both of his starts at Delta Downs, including last year's 350-yard, $306,000 Firecracker Futurity (G2).

One Fine V is trained by Dale Keith for owners Jose Maria Garza and Mario H. Vazquez. The filly drew post 4 and will be ridden by J.R. Ramirez in the second of two trials.

Pappacito will be stretching out in distance off of his 1 1/4-length win in the 350-yard, $109,000 Old South Derby at Delta Downs on May 19. A $30,000 purchase at the 2021 Heritage Place Yearling Sale, the gelded son of Ivory James is trained by Heath Taylor for owner Robin L. Redding.

Pappacito drew post 6 and will be ridden by Gilbert Ortiz in the first heat.
