Favfreighttrain Tops Final Day of 2024 LQHBA Yearling Sale

KINDER, LA–AUGUST 3, 2024–Sustainable demand for Louisiana-Bred yearlings continued the second and final day of the 48th annual LQHBA Yearling Sale with Favfreighttrain topping proceedings on Friday at $102,000, ahead of Apollitical Chill at $95,000 and Redd White And Blue at $92,000.

The annual two-day sale closed with a 9.3% average increase to $19,437, compared with $17,781 in 2023. The median rose 4% to $12,500, compared to $12,000 last year. The sale saw 385 of the 457 horses offered sell for gross receipts of $7,483,400, slightly down from last year's $7,734,500, when 50 more horses sold.

"Louisiana consignors delivered an outstanding yearling crop," LQHBA Executive Director Bruce Salard said late Saturday. "Buyers responded with across-the-board sale increases. Louisiana will provide an exciting year for Quarter Horse racing fans!"

Rogelio Marquez, Jr. paid $102,o00 for Saturday's sale-topper Favfreighttrain (Hip 263), a colt by world champion sire Freighttrain B from the Favorite Cartel mare Primadonna. Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent for Leroy Janacek, Jr. consigned the half-brother to stakes winner Jessaprimadonna.  This is the family of champion filly Miss Racy Jess.

Rancho El Patron paid $95,000 for Saturday's second high-seller Apollitical Chill (Hip 270) a colt by champion Apollitical Blood from the Separatist mare Ms Proverbial. Fontenot Running Horses, Agent for Teddy Berry consigned the half-brother to Laddie Futurity(RG2) winner Sir Louisiana Dash.

Ranulfo Vidal Valdez paid $92,000 for the third high-seller on Saturday Redd White And Blue (Hip 342), a filly by champion sire Apollitical Blood from Golden State Derby(G2) finalist Peacefull Delight by Tres Seis. Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent for Simmons Racing, consigned the filly from the family of world champion Be A Bono.

Jerry Deville, Jr., was the sale's leading buyer, with nine purchases totaling $427,000. Party Tyme Racing paid $225,000, while Rogelio Marquez, Jr., purchased three yearlings for $207,000.

Grant Farms, LLC was the sale's leading consignor and/or agent, with 24 yearlings bringing gross receipts of $698,500. Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent sold 20 yearlings for $584,200, and RJ Ranch had 12 head gross of $350,500.

Apollitical Blood was the leading sale sire (by average, two or more sold), with 23 yearlings averaging $45,804. Ivory James sold 24 yearlings for a $36,167 average, and Freighttain B had 29 for an average of $30,462. 

San Lorenzo was the leading first sale-crop sire, with 13 yearlings averaging $21,746. Hes Innocent had six yearlings, averaging $21,350.
