San Lorenzo Chrome Qualifies Fastest For The Laddie Futurity At Delta Downs

VINTON, LA–MAY 3, 2024–Delta Downs hosted a special 12-race program on Friday night. Each race served as a qualifying heat for this year’s $291,932 Laddie Futurity (RG2).

The 10 fastest colts and geldings from the trials will compete in the final, which will be run on Saturday, May 25.

The fastest qualifier for the Laddie came out of the fifth trial as Rogelio Marquez, Jr.’s San Lorenzo Chrome won easily and stopped the timer in :16.637 seconds (speed index 97) with jockey Martin Osuna in the saddle.

The Jeremy Derozin trainee was making his career debut in the trials and now looks to cash a huge paycheck in the final.

The Laddie trial heats carried a purse of $10,000 and each winner took home $6,000. The first-place prize for the rich final will score a huge paycheck of $145,966.

San Lorenzo Chrome is a 2-year-old sorrel colt by world champion sire Freighttrain B, out of the Jet Black Patriot mare Jet Black Presence. He was purchased by his connections for $38,000 at the 2023 Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association Sale. Charles Boudreaux is the breeder.

Enzo Avion who finished second to San Lorenzo Chrome held on to the second fastest clocking of :16.795 seconds, a 92-speed index. Trainer Emily Jeane conditions the $19,500 LQHBA Yearling Sale graduate for owners Jose Rodriguez and Rancho Herradura LLC.

Grant Farms LLC bred the Mr Piloto colt from the First Moonflash mare Avionix. Enzo Avion made his career debut in the Laddie trials.

Freighttrain B led all sires with four qualifiers. First-crop sire Gold Heart Eagle V got a finalist.

Delta Downs will close out the second week of its 2024 Quarter Horse season on Saturday with a nine-race program that kicks off at 6:15 pm (CDT). Fans can also watch and wager on this year’s Kentucky Derby program via simulcast live from Churchill Downs in the OTB during the day.
