Eyesa Freighttrain B Gets Second Graded Stakes Win In $217,678 Oklahoma Derby at Remington Park

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MARCH 23, 2024—Graded stakes winner Eyesa Freighttrain B got his second career stakes win on Saturday when he defeated stablemate B Second Cowboy by a head in the $217,678 Grade 3 Oklahoma Derby at Remington Park.

Under champion jockey James Flores, Eyesa Freighttrain B got up at the wire while completing the 350 yards in :17.648 seconds, a 90 speed index. Flores was thrilled to ride this horse for the first time. It was the fifth career win for the colt who won the Laddie Futurity(RG2) at Delta Downs last season. 

"I just want to thank the connections for giving me this opportunity," Flores said. "I really had to reach and snatch him up when he changed leads because he was starting to drift out."

Maurico Lopez conditions the son of world champion sire Freighttrain B for owner Party Tyme Racing. Bred in Louisiana by Jumonville Farms and Burnett Ranch, from the Mr Jess Perry mare Eyejesslovelouisiana, Eyesa Freighttrain B earned $97,701 to increase his bankroll to $605,449.

"I knew he was talented and we’re trying to prove him as a stud," said Lopez. "He made a half-million last year as a 2-year-old and he’s still a colt. I would like to thank the Lord and my brother Pepe. Our whole crew is one big family."

The bay colt was also second in the LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity(RG1) and Lee Berwick Futurity(RG1) and fourth in the Dash For Cash Futurity(G2) last season.

Also trained by Lopez and owned by Party Tyme Racing, runner-up B Second Cowboy earned $37,005 for finishing second. A finalist in the Sam Houston Futurity(G2) and Evangeline Downs Futurity(G2), B Second Cowboy picked up his first black type finish in the Oklahoma Derby.

Jose R Espinosa bred the Flying Cowboy 123 gelding in Texas from the Favorite Cartel mare Nsm Favorite Zoomer by Favorite Cartel.  Ridden by champion jockey Francisco Calderon, B Second Cowboy has earned $96,325.

Fastest qualifier Fire Eat N Cowboy was three-quarters back to earn $23,945 for third The lightly raced son of leading second-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123 is a Texas homebred for owner-breeder Paragon Farms LLC. Fire Eat N Cowboy was a $50,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale repurchase.

S. Trey Wood saddled the gelding out of She Eat Fire, by Corona Cartel. A winner of two of five starts, Fire Eat N Cowboy has banked $37,348. Champion jockey Ricky Ramirez had the riding assignment.

Completing the Oklahoma Derby field were Nims B, Jc Prince Of Torts, Thunder Cartel, Midnight Ryde, Reason To Remember, Jmg One Hott Eagle and Apollitical Whiplash.
