Famous Eye Glory Remains Undefeated After Winning The Louisiana Downs Maiden Classic Stakes


Famous Eye Glory, ridden by Bryan Candanosa, wins the $157,250 Louisiana Downs Maiden Classic Stakes (not black type) by a length on Saturday afternoon.

BOSSIER CITY, LA–MARCH 23, 2024– Famous Eye Glory took over the lead and goes two for two from his freshman campaign in the $157,250 Louisiana Downs Maiden Classic Stakes (not black type) on Saturday afternoon.

Ridden by Bryan Candanosa in both races, Famous Eye Glory won his trial heat to the Maiden Classic on February 29 by 2 1/4-lengths. The duo returned to the 350-yard finals on March 23 for a length victory in :17.565 seconds clocking a 101 speed index. The post-time favorite’s first place finish paid $5.80 to win on 9/5 odds

The $62,900 winner’s share of the purse increases Famous Eye Glory’s earnings to $65,300. The undefeated son of world-champion sire One Famous Eagle is conditioned by Toby Keeton.

Breeder Johnny Trotter sold Famous Eye Glory in the 2022 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale for $48,000. The Texas-bred colt out of Eye Of Glory by Mr Eye Opener is currently owned by Anabel Jimenez.

With Luis Vivanco in the irons, Jaegar dug in late for second best by a neck. The three-year-old son of leading sire Apollitical Jess has yet to break his maiden and has $30,444 in the bank.

Bred by Five Puig Racing, Jaegar was a $63,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sales graduate in 2022 and is owned by Guerras Racing Stables. Toby Keeton also trains the Oklahoma-bred colt out of Adolph Tres Knockout by Tres Seis.

Back Country, guided by Arturo Alvarez fought gamely for his third place finish. The Victor Garcia owned gelding did break his maiden after winning his trial heat to the Maiden Classic and has career earnings of $22,198.

Bred in Missouri by Jim Streelman and Bill Dale, the three-year-old gelding is out of Imaqtpie by One Famous Eagle. The son of FDD Dynasty was sold for $40,000 in the 2022 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. Trainer Katie Carlos saddled Back Country for owner Victor Garcia.

Swanky B, Tlc Jess Bye, C The Power, Corona Especial, Trainarunnin and Cardiac round out the order of finish. Apolliticallady was scratched by the stewards.
